Ragama Calvary Church is truly a place where God has shown His faithfulness by honoring us with His dwelling presence at these grounds as the psalmist desired. Each Sunday people come to find this “one thing only” and return to their day to day lives with fulfilled desires for the past years, since it was declared as a Calvary Church branch of Kirulapona main church at the year of 1986 June 13th.
This church came into existence by a simple effort of witnessing done by our beloved Brother Abraham Ponniah to his boss at the time, Brother Roshan Abesinghe. Being saved, eventually he was directed to the Calvary main church at Kirulapona who later on opened his home for a ministry that could be started at Ragama.
Seeing its potential Dr .Rev. Tissa Weerasinghe sent his workers under him at the time, such as Pastor Brian Pereira, Pastor Ruwan Wijesinghe, Pastor Ranil Wijeyasinghe and Rev. Lasantha Godakumbura. But disliking the idea of many visiting preachers, Ragama Calvary Church members suggested a steady Pastor that could shepherd them and give them leadership to build a firm church and continued writing “p.s. preferably Pastor Lasantha Godakumbura.”(As he recalls it with much affection and joy)
And so Rev. Lasantha Godakumbura took on the challenge. God used him enormously through his unique “piercingly discerning” preacher calling to change many lives with bondages and many miracles that were performed to bring about healing and liberty to many bound souls that lived for many years at Ragama. As believers started to flood the residence of Brother Roshan, it became an obvious move to buy a new land that could be established as a permanent building to conduct services every Sunday. With much proclamation, declaration and donations given by the Ragama members at the time, the land situated in front of the Ragama police station was bought in the year of 1990.

OUR CORE VALUES
There on the church grew further. Ragama Calvary church also paved the way to build six more branch churches such as Kohalwila, Kadawatha, Ihalabiyanwitha, Ihalakaragahamula, Wattala and Maharanugegoda. Ragama Church Sunday services spread more into morning and evening Sinhala services, Tamil and English services. This Church also gave rise to many fulltime workers, sponsoring for their education at Calvary Bible College.
Due to the dismissal of clusters and centralization act taken by the Kirulapona Calvary main church, all clusters and workers were taken over. Even though we considered it as a loss, it truly challenged the next generation who took on the challenge to build the new church building with a seating capacity for three hundred believers.
Ragama Calvary Church is known to facing many trials and conflicts that even aroused within the church. But by the grace of our God through it all the church was cleansed as it is our heart’s intension to lift up our church as a pure, holy and acceptable bride to our Lord when He returns with His majesty.
Currently the Church runs under four main categories apart from Sunday services, which is Sunday school, Youth fellowship, Ladies fellowship and Men’s fellowship ministry.
Our future goal is to claim many promises that God has bestowed on our church and to reach Ragama to its fullest extend.
